Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro!, 3 March 2013

Story

This June, my sister Alice and I are taking on a challenge of a lifetime - attempting to reach the summit of Africa's highest mountain!

As most of you know, I'm not a particularly hardy person... Camping is not my normal holiday of choice (especially on the side of a freezing mountain!) and I am definitely more of a fair-weather person.. Having said that, I will be putting all of my energy and strength to reach the summit of the Kilimanjaro, and the summit of my fundraising target for Trust Children's Home in southern India.

This fantastic orphanage has been supporting children in the rural district of Vengadampatty in Tamil Nadu, since the tsunami of 2004 tragically took their parents. Set up shortly after, Dr Thirumaran and his wife have been single handedly raising these children and giving them a home, a family and an upbringing.

Now homing over 40 children aged 3 to 17 years, I will be spending April working with Dr Thirumaran in the orphanage and seeing exactly the difference this money will make to their lives. Just £1.20 supports one child for one day, but I want to raise enough to ensure all 43 children are continued to be cared for and more can be taken in.

Please, please dig deep and help me support this fantastic initiative. All donations will be making a huge difference to these children and secure the rest of their childhood.

Thank you in advance!!

About the charity

The TRUST Children Home, in rural South India, was set up after the 2004 tsunami to look after children made destitute by this disaster. It has since taken in others who are without family. Our UK support charity is run by a group of ex-volunteers to raise awareness of these lovely children.
