Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Throughout my life I have liked to have little goals, challenges and achievements to complete and test myself. For instance I have completed the three peaks challenge, half marathons and military style Bergen tabs.
On my ‘to do’ list was a marathon- just once in my life and I was adamant it would be London. Each and every year I enter the ballot and most summertimes I get the ‘sorry’ email but this year- I was successful so London 2024 is my year.
I am a keen charity fundraiser, always charities close to my heart. Previously Royal British Legion for my Nan, Combat Stress for my ex-military friends and Maggies Cancer Centres for Jons cousin Claire.
This time I am running for ‘Shooting Star Cancer Support’ a charity supporting the cancer patient ward at Wrexham Maelor hospital. Cancer is close to us all and I am sure we know someone effected by it.
Shooting Star was chosen as they helped my old friend Jes’ dad- Bill Smith and Jons old friend, boss and mentor and I couldn’t think of a better reason to run than in his memory. A husband, dad, grandpa and friend to many taken too soon from this world.
Bills family couldn’t speak more highly of the charities work. So I am running so more people can be given the support required.
A little about Shooting star
SHOOTING STAR CANCER SUPPORT
Supporting the Wrexham Maelor Hospital Shooting Star Unit by directly funding vital equipment to optimise treatment delivery and the patient pathway.
Our role is to fund pieces of equipment that are difficult for the NHS to provide, and which allow optimisation of the journey for the patient through their diagnosis or their treatment.
Your generous donations have continued, funding the building of the first Macmillan Unit in Wales opposite the Shooting Star Unit, and funding vital cancer treatment equipment over the years that the NHS have been unable to fund.
Blood, Sweat and Tears in coming for a long training road and 26.2 miles come April.
For you Bill.
