Story
I only knew Emily for a couple of years and she still managed to amaze me with her wonderful ways and kind heartedness. Emily had Type 1 Diabetes and experiencing a dramatic hypo in her sleep is thought to have contributed to her death whilst sleeping. Her death was a massive shock and it still is. Emily’s family (sister, cousins), boyfriend, colleagues and friends are represented in Team Em And Me! however we are a fraction of the hundreds who attended her funeral testament to Emily’s lovely personality and the impact she had on people both personally and professionally as a Mental Health Social Worker. Emily would have had a place to run the London Marathon in 2013 as her first marathon so it seems fitting that we take on this challenge for her. Additionally, Emily was an enthusiastic fundraiser for Diabetes UK having raised money through other running events before and therefore our team wishes to add to her contributions and the over £5K already donated to the charity on Emily’s behalf since April by running for Diabetes UK. It really means a lot to us that the money will help others manage their condition but also that it can help fund research into ultimately finding a cure for Type 1.
