We support families of children with CHI to educate, socialise & continue research

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My girlfriend and I are running the 2018 New Forest Half Marathon on 9th September to support Congenital Hyperinsulinism CHI.

Congenital Hyperinsulinism (CHI) is rare but extremely serious condition occurring soon after birth. This disorder causes extremely low blood sugars in infants and children; the pancreas produces excessive levels of insulin, leading to brain injury and also sadly death if left untreated. The Children's Hyperinsulinism Charity relies totally on voluntary support to fund their work.

My very strong 7yr old niece Eloise has suffered from birth with Congenital hyperinsulinism. Eloise was born in Nov 2010 & within a few hours was found to have dangerously low blood sugar levels. She was rushed to the ICU where she baffled the medical team who struggled to keep her sugar levels stable. After a week of intense tests and research with the assistance of the HI team at GOSH (Great Ormond Street Hospital), she was diagnosed with CHI.

Now 7yrs old Eloise has made remarkable progress, she is now medication free and doesn't let anything (or anyone stop her).

This is owed to the wonderful care and assistance of all the medical professionals she met along the way, in particular the amazing HI team at GOSH and the wonderful support of the Children's Hyperinsulinism Charity. We now want to do our bit to say thank you.

About the charity

The Children’s Hyperinsulinism Charity raises funds to support families living in the UK, Northern Ireland and Ireland who have children with Congenital Hyperinsulinism (CHI), a rare disorder affecting approx 1:50,000 in the UK. We will hold conferences to support each other and meet other families living with CHI which is so important. These conferences will also include education sessions presented by experienced families and medical professionals. We will also support research into different aspects of CHI including genetics, blood glucose, new medication and repurposed medication. Thank you for supporting The Children's Hyperinsulinism Charity (CHC).
