Story
On the 16th September I will take part in the Wee Wanderer at the Edinburgh Kiltwalk with Sophia. For those of you who know me well, you'll know we lost my mum Pearl 11 years ago. My mum had kept my big sister's childhood kilt that she wanted to pass down to her first grandchild. Sadly despite never getting to meet Sophia and do this personally, she's now big enough to wear the kilt and so taking part in the Kiltwalk seemed like the ideal opportunity to remember my mum by and we will be walking in her memory.
The weekend after on the 23rd September I will be taking part in the Highland Bungee Swing. A specially constructed swing is placed over the River Garry in Pitlochry. In a full body harness I'll be released 50 feet and accelerated through the trees. Basically a bungee jump, but sitting upright being swung across rather than head first :-)
For both these events I'll be raising money for Age Scotland!
Can you imagine spending every day with your only company being the TV!! For many older people in Scotland that's their reality. Changing communities and family dynamics means many older people can go weeks or months without speaking to any family or friends.
Age Scotland aims to change this, working towards combatting loneliness and isolation in older people, supporting older people to live independently and promoting positive views of ageing.
Sadly my mum never got the chance to grow old, but I certainly hope that when I do and Sophia does, that Scotland is a place where older people feel valued, engaged and connected to society. Age Scotland can help that be a reality.
THANK YOU!!!!
