Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. All monies donated via Lichfield Diocesan Trust will be passed on by the Diocese to St Margaret's in full.
We want to make our church living and active for the future. So, following our Quinquennial Inspection, damage to the roof and other defects due to age were identified. After 160 years, the roof has done well but now needs some TLC. Our 1970s entrance porch which has wood surrounds to the glazing is suffering from damp & rot. There have been works to "fix" immediate problems but now more dramatic action is needed to freshen the look of the church at the same time. To further our church activities, we also plan to install a disabled toilet / baby changing facility in the porch area.
A proposed list of work is available on the St Margaret's website on www.stmargaretsgreatbarr.org.uk
or from the parish office on gtbarr@btconnect.com.
Just a quick update as at 18 April, Walsall Council have approved the proposed works to the roof. The church has to apply to Lichfield Diocese for a Faculty to carry out the works and as part of this, we had to put up a notice to advise people of the works. This notice had to be up for a month which ended yesterday (17.4.19). Lichfield Diocese will now consider the application. Our architects have also had to contact the Victorian Society to see if they had any concerns about the proposals but it appears they are happy that we will be replacing "like for like". Just waiting on Lichfield now...…
Good News: Lichfield Diocese have granted our Faculty application and work will be commencing on site on Monday 10 June 2019. The church will remain open while the works are being carried out and they are due to complete in early December. Fingers crossed!!
5.8.19 - Works progressing well so far, although it was a bit of a shock to see scaffolding at both ends of the church (we had thought it would only be at the far end!) The organ has had to be covered over to protect it in case of any leaks - there have been a couple of minor leaks with the recent downpours but nothing major and our organist is managing to cope and play for us still. The main thing is that the church is still open for services, weddings, baptisms and funerals and other events which we are grateful for.
