Story

This Lent we want you to Get Moving for Trócaire and help us raise vital funds for the families who need our support in South Sudan.

A few tips

  1. Choose a distance to cover and set a time limit by when you want to complete your challenge (again, please do this safely and within guidelines)
  2. How about setting the challenge of getting from Ireland to South Sudan (the focus country of our 2021 Lenten Appeal). It’s approximately 5,500 miles away (it sounds a lot but could be very achievable as a large group). Or you can come up with whatever distance means something to you.

It doesn’t matter how you do it – walk, run, cycle or even or hop if you’d like. Do as much or as little in one go. Do it alone or with your family or safely with friends – just go for it and keep tracking your progress until you reach that goal.

On the Trócaire Box this Lent, there are two amazing women from South Sudan – Awut and Ajak, who had to flee brutal conflict in order to save their families but who’s bond and kindness to each other helped them survive against the odds.

What your Lenten donation can do:

  • €10 / £9 can feed hungry families like Ajak and Awut’s, by helping buy seeds and two farm hoes
  • €25 / £22 can protect Malong and his siblings from disease, by helping rush a soap and sanitation kit
  • €75 / £66 can put food on the table for Awut or Ajak and their families, a one-month supply for a family of six
  • €170 / £149 can help to heal the wounds of war for women like Ajak and Awut, by helping fund a finance and counselling support group
  • €530 / £464 can teach Ajak and Awut’s families new skills to grow food in a changing climate, by helping fund seeds, tools, and agroecology training
  • €2,500 / £2,190 can bring clean water to thousands, by helping drill new boreholes and train communities like Ajak and Awut’s to repair broken water pumps

Double your impact with UK Aid Match

Your love can make all the difference this Lent. Donations from Northern Ireland or the UK made before 16 May 2021 will be doubled by the UK government up to £2m.
