Our Hospice at Home service was piloted and launched in May 2012 and, from our very first day, we were overwhelmed with all the demand. So much so that we had to start recruiting more nurses almost immediately. Overall in 2014, almost 400 families where referred to our service - far more than we could ever anticipated when we began.
Thanks to the support from our community last year, we were able to expand to provide a night service.
Our night service has already become a crucial part of the care we provide - but we're limited in the number of families we can reach. At present we only have two fully-trained healthcare assistants at night.
The harsh truth is that, at the moment, we are having to say 'no' to families who are requesting overnight care - far too often, just when they need us most.
Our goal is to provide the very best end-of-life care for everyone in Worthing, Adur, Arun and Henfield. More than two-thirds of our patients tell us they would prefer to be at home in their final days. If we can find the money, we can employ two new healthcare assistants, we can then reach more families who need our care.
Our entire Hospice at Home service - including night care - is only possible because local people and organisations choose to support us. Please, give what you can today and help our to expand our night service and reach more families who need our help.
Thank you.
