Rock FM's Cash for kids have teamed up with this wonderful family to fundraise, raise awareness of Krabbe Disease and help them make some wonderful memories with their beautiful little boy. Please read the message below from Anthony's mum, Jenna, to learn about their story and how you can help.
My
name is Jenna Bannon (26 years) i have a beautiful 6 month old baby son
named Anthony Rushe Jnr. He has just recently been diagnosed with a
very rare condition called Krabbe Disease. It is a disorder that affects the brain.
Over the space of 1 year, the body's nerves degenerate until the child loses the ability to hear, to see, to feel, to swallow and then to breath. We have recently been discharged from hospital after a two week stay after originally being admitted with what we thought was a bad case of colic.
We
have been told now that our son only has 6 months to 1 1/2 years to
live as there is currently no cure or possible delaying treatment for
this. As it is a disease that only
affects 1 in 100,000 people in the UK it is not currently screened for
before birth. It is screened for in the United States whilst the baby is
still in the womb and even though there is still no cure, there are medications there that can help with the problem and pro long life if the conditions are recognised before the symptoms start at 2 - 6 months of age.
I am writing to you to hopefully bring awareness of this disease as many more parents without this screening in place will also suffer the same devastating fate
as our family has and to make this public with the chance that someone
somewhere can help him whilst he is still in a condition to be saved.
Any help possible to raise funds so i can raise awareness for this disease either locally or nationally would be fantastic.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
You can donate to this wonderful appeal through Cash for Kids and we will be using your donations to provide any specialist equipment Anthony may require in the coming months to help him at home with his condition. We will also be doing as much as possible to ensure the family can make many wonderful memories together.
