Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Pushing boundaries is what we do best, oh that and having fun, Lots of fun, so when we heard about Capability Scotland Big Event, - this year’s 13 mile Wheelchair Challenge let’s just say being springland people we sprung at the chance to take part. Well some of US did, But bearing in mind all these high energy chocolate bars one must consume, it turns out we didn’t need that much persuasion after all.

Our fantastic team Kenny Conway, Shannon Robertson, Kathy Hendry, Andy Addy, Jenny Davidson, Christine Thomas and Andy Johnston, led by our dare devil Team leader Jason O’Donnell plan to Trek over Edinburgh’s landscape on Saturday 14 September to reach the summit of Arthur’s Seat. Yes Ladies and gentlemen, 13 miles, that is half a marathon.

Why I hear you ask, well the answer to that is quite simple, In doing so we hope to raise funds for, and awareness of, the great work Capability Scotland do and in particular our own service here at Perth, Upper Springland.  We are a purpose built facility, which aims to enable people with a range of disabilities to lead their lives to the full and support them to be all they can be.

By accessing specialist facilities and services, customers are able to participate in an array of social, educational and therapeutic opportunities.  One of our most popular activities here at Upper Springland’s is our hydrotherapy sessions.  You see we have a wonderful hydrotherapy pool, but with your help it could be better.

Instead of green tiled walls which darken the space, we could have projected moving interactive images, bouncing from wall to wall, and dolphins chasing each other across the room. Instead of bright strip lights, we could have interchangeable light states which can be activated by sound and movements, set to individual’s preferences, calming, vibrate dusted by a haze a mist. Instead of the lovely Jenny Davidson’s docile tones echoing throughout the room as she tried to remember the words to a beloved requested song, we could have wonderful melodic melodies trigger by interactive Buttons and light beams floating on the tranquil waters. Money Raised from this event will go towards the redevelopment of our hydrotherapy Pool. That means more people will have the sensory experience they deserve.

The only barriers in life are the one we create for ourselves.
