Help to beat cancer.
Thank you for visiting my Sports fundraising page in support of Cancer Research UK. Please dig deep and sponsor me – it’s quick, easy and totally secure.
We have all lost friends / family to cancer. The odds are that 1 in 3 of us will be diagnosed at some stage in our lives. Cancer will continue to take lives until we beat it. To do this, we need to fund cutting-edge research.
Some of you may know that my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. After radiotherapy, hormone therapy and surgery she was given the all-clear. However, last September a routine breast screening flagged up another tumour affecting the same breast; just when we all thought that chapter was long behind us, she is faced with the same ordeal all over again. My mum suffered a few strokes during the recovery stages of the first instance of cancer, and has since been diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia, a progressive language and speech disorder. This makes the situation near impossible, as she finds it difficult to communicate with and understand others who communicate with her. We are all working hard to get her the help she needs, and put this second chapter behind us.
Several others in my family have suffered from the illness. And recently a school aquaintance was lost to bowel cancer at the age of 25, just days before his 26th birthday. He was a healthy intelligent young man (http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2013/mar/01/john-beecher). This shouldn't have happened.
Breakthroughs in research will yield treatments that will hopefully prevent these heart-breaking situations. Cancer Research UK is funded entirely by supporters like you. By sponsoring me you can help more people survive cancer.
Every pound you donate really does make a difference to Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer – so please sponsor me now!
