Story
Every year, around 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke, which averages at one person every five minutes. Stroke is the third most common cause of death in the UK and although most people who have a stroke are older, it is estimated that over 20,000 people under 65 have a stroke every year.
Almost a third of people who have a stroke will make a significant recovery within a month. However, most stroke survivors will have long-term problems, and sadly, in the most severe cases, strokes can be fatal or cause long-term disability.
5 years ago, my father passed away in hospital after he suffered a stroke, aged just 55. In that moment, I lost the most amazing, loving and caring best friend I have ever had after just 13 years of having the honour of being his daughter. Having previously also lost my Grandad to the same illness in 2006, taking part in fundraising to help those affected by stroke is close to my heart.
Therefore, I am raising money for the Stroke Association in the Resolution Run on the 6th October - in memory of my Dad and my Grandad, for those who have survived and are now recovering, to help further research and to hopefully increase the chance of survival.
