Story

Hello, I am Sophie (aged 10). Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!

I was talking to my mummy (Heejin) one day and an idea came to us: We both love swimming, so why don't we swim together to raise money for charity?

We chose the Ocean Cleanup because it is so sad that the ocean is getting more and more polluted every day. For example, the algae in the Great Barrier Reef is going away, because of all the fuel and rubbish in the water, leaving the coral to die, without the energy resources it needs. No coral means no fish. No fish means no sharks, turtles, seals or other ocean wildlife!

We are swimming 22 miles (11 miles each) during the summer holidays (July -Aug 2022). We chose 22 miles because that is the distance to swim the English Channel! We thought about swimming the actual channel, but that seemed a bit scary!

Please sponsor our cause, it really means a lot!

About the charity

The Ocean Cleanup is a non-profit organization, developing advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. By utilizing the ocean currents to our advantage, our passive drifting systems are estimated to clean up half the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in 5 years’ time.
