Story
Hi there, Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I will be trekking 18 miles along Hadrian's Wall National Trail on Saturday 12th June in order to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
I am doing this, not only for my two gorgeous sons, James and George, but also for the other approx 8500 people in the UK living with this devastating condition. Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a life threatening progressive and chronic disease for which there is no cure at the moment.
The treatment for this disease means constant medication (James, aged three, has to take between 40-50 tablets per day) and physiotherapy at least twice daily. A common cold can put them in hospital and they have to avoid certain fun activities as they can seriously damage their health in the long run and bring down their life expectancy.
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is one of the UK's most common life threatening inherited disease. The internal organs, especially the lungs and gut, become clogged with mucus, making it hard to breathe and digest food. There are over 8,500 people in the UK with CF and each week five new babies are born with CF whilst three young people die.
The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the UK's only national charity dealing with all aspects of CF. It funds research to treat and cure CF and aims to ensure appropraite clinical care and support for people with CF.
90% of people with CF die from lung damage. The CF Trust has invested has invested well over £15million to develop a gene therapy product, which they are working to take to clinical trial. This will be the biggest CF gene therapy trials ever conducted, but the CF Trust still need to raise several more million pounds which is where I come in!
