We grant wishes for seriously ill children to give them magical memories

Story

My name is Sophie Washington and I am a Rays of Sunshine Wish Ambassador.

I first started fundraising for Rays of Sunshine after my own wish was granted in September 2010, because I wanted to help give other seriously ill children and young people the chance to have a dream come true. Previously, I had fundraised for my own projects, including purchasing much-needed specialist equipment for hospitals I received treatment in, refurbishing the staff room on one of the wards I was a frequent inpatient on, and funding a children's garden at a hospital I stayed in regularly.

In 2012, Rays of Sunshine heard my health had deteriorated further, and organised for me to sing with JLS at their annual Sunshine Concert.

In December 2013, I became the youngest pancreas transplant recipient in the UK, and am looking forward to continuing to fundraise for Rays of Sunshine and promoting organ donation, as well as other things.

Unfortunately, my transplant failed in October 2017. Despite my numerous health problems, I have recently completed a Psychology degree via the Open University and am looking forward to whatever the future brings.

I am also a Wish Co-Ordinator for Rays of Sunshine - which means when I am well enough, I arrange wishes for other seriously ill children!

Any donation, no matter how small, is gratefully received and can make a huge difference.

Thank you,

We brighten the lives of seriously ill young people by granting wishes and providing ongoing support. Our wishes are as unique as the children themselves and whether a child wants to be a fireman, meet a real-life mermaid or even the Loch Ness Monster, we work hard to make that wish come true.
