Story
Hello! My name is Sophie Minocha. I am a junior at Morristown Beard School and have the honor of being their representative on the Overlook Medical Center Junior Board! Every year, the Junior Board raises funds for specific areas of the hospital. This year we have selected the neurological department, specifically for a new neurological operating room. This cause is important to me because my mom had surgery there a few years ago and I want to be able to help other families get the care they need.
Overlook Medical Center is home to Atlantic Neuroscience Institute - the area's leader in neuroscience care - which offers a broad range of advanced neurological, neurosurgical, and neurodiagnostic services. These include an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center, a Level IV Epilepsy Center, Atlantic Health Neuroscience Spine Center, and the Gerald J. Glasser Brain Tumor Center, where more brain tumor surgeries are performed than anywhere else in the state. With some 15,000 surgeries performed each year at Overlook, there is a demonstrated need to increase capacity and optimize our ability to perform complex procedures within a broad range of specialties. To that end, both inpatient and outpatient surgical areas are being renovated and expanded to include additional surgery suites, with particular focus given to providing our neurosurgeons with the space and the tools they need.
This year, thanks to a very generous donor, we have a matching grant. Every dollar donated, up to $100,000, will be doubled. Thank you for helping us on this journey and supporting an amazing cause!
