Having said I would never do the Great north run again, I felt like I was missing out last year. So I have donned my trainers and will be running in September. Not only that, I will also be doing:

Since Andrew lost his fight with a brain tumour on 06/05/2018, I was recommended by our specialist nurses to access the services provided by Maggies. I have been receiving bereavement counselling at the Maggies centre in Newcastle. These centres provide support for families affected by all types of cancer. I have been seeing Mary-Jane for 20 months and her support has been invaluable. The appointments have provided me with the opportunity to chat and cry (which lots of you will know I’m not very good at doing - not wanting to upset other people) when I need to. 

The progress that I have made, and the person that I have become have all been helped by these appointments. When my father then also passed away last October - not cancer related - I was able to talk about it in my sessions. You don’t feel judged or silly and talk therapy really helps. 

The Maggies centres are all charities, and rely on donations. I have chosen to run/swim this year to pay back for the fantastic service that I have received and continue to receive. Just a small token of my appreciation for how amazing the team has been to me.
