Help My Daughter Sofia Achieve Her Dream of Walking: Support for Wheelchair, Physio, and Intensive Therapy
Today, I want to share our family’s journey and ask for your support to help my daughter in her fight against her diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy.
Who is Sofia?
Sofia is my brave, joyful 8-year-old daughter, and she has a dream—to walk on her own one day. Born almost three months too soon, Sofia has had to overcome incredible obstacles from the very beginning. Diagnosed with severe cerebral palsy, epilepsy, developmental delays, and limitations in all four limbs, she faces daily struggles to move and engage with the world around her. These challenges mean she depends on my support every single moment of the day and night, and as her mom, I am here for her 24/7, doing everything I can to help her.
But as a single mother, providing Sofia with the resources she needs has become more than I can manage on my own. I’m reaching out for help so that we can continue her treatments and give her the equipment that will bring her closer to her dream of walking.
Why We Need Your Help
We’re raising funds to help Sofia gain more independence and improve her mobility through these essential items:
1. A Hoggi Wheelchair – This specialized wheelchair will give Sofia the freedom to explore her world in ways she can’t right now.
2. Private Physiotherapy Sessions – Sofia needs intensive physiotherapy to strengthen her muscles and gain better control of her movements.
3. Intensive Therapy at the Olinek Center in Poland – This therapy center is known for helping children like Sofia, and the intensive sessions there would be life-changing for her.
Our Story
Sofia’s journey has been one of bravery and resilience. After she was born at 29 weeks, she spent over two months in neonatal intensive care. For those first two weeks, I dared to hope that she was healthy. Then, on January 26, she suffered a massive brain hemorrhage while she slept. That’s when our world changed—Sofia was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, which would limit her ability to move and control her muscles.
As we adjusted to this new reality, another tragedy struck. In May 2016, my husband, Sofia’s father, was diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer, which had already spread. He passed away two months later, leaving us with unimaginable grief. He was the father of both our children, but heartbreakingly, he never knew he was going to be a dad again. Just after his passing, I discovered I was pregnant with our son. He was born a few months later and has been a source of strength and joy for our family.
Raising two children on my own has been both a challenge and a privilege. Since Sofia’s birth, I’ve dedicated myself to her treatments, taking her to specialists and therapy centers in Moldova, Ukraine, Poland, Russia, and Belgium. Thanks to the dedication of her doctors and therapists, Sofia has made progress, and I am so proud of her. But now we need your help to keep going and bring her closer to her dream of walking.
How You Can Make a Difference
By donating to this page, you’ll be directly supporting Sofia’s journey to independence. Every donation, no matter the amount, brings us closer to affording her wheelchair, physiotherapy, and specialized treatments. Last year, even a small donation allowed Sofia to complete a vital therapy session that marked a huge step forward.
Let’s Give Sofia the Gift of Movement
With your help, Sofia can continue her journey toward walking, and I can keep giving her the best chance at independence. Please consider donating or sharing this post—every bit of support means the world to us. Thank you for caring and for helping Sofia take a step toward her dream.
