Story
The challenge is to climb Snowdon 7 times in 7 days while I am in Snowdonia with my Dad on holiday in June 2019 to remember and honour my Mum.
Those of you who know me well will know that my Mum loved Snowdon and Snowdonia, and when she sadly passed away in hospital in June 2017 it was a great shock to us all.
Mums ashes were later spread on a mountainside overlooking Snowdon and I vowed to honour my Mum yearly by doing what I do best, fundraising through physical challenges.
Each year I try and do one big main challenge either around June to coincide with the anniversary of the day my Mum passed, or a challenge in the area.
I do the challenges as part of the 'WWMD' What would Mum do? fund raising legacy I set up in honour of my Mum.
You can see the money raised so far through that legacy at this URL address online :

This year I am going to be 50 on the 1st of July so I also want to do a big challenge I could be proud of as an older gent :)
In 2018 I managed to finish my biggest challenge yet, the inaugural GB Ultras Mt Snowdon Ultra (50). That was a 50 mile ultra over 24 hours taking in many mountain summits including going all the way up and down Snowdon at roughly the third of the way in mark.
Thankfully I survived that challenge, but I'm not so sure my knees did as I suffered a lot of pain on downhills, and I still do.
Therefore this years 7 in 7 challenge is a fast hike/run/jog/walk on the way up, and a recovery walk down as it's less impact on my knees.
The challenge is getting up there as fast as I reasonably can each day (in moving time, as I will be stopping to take pictures a lot) and stopping the clock at the summit.
I will post and share my time and mileage for that route each day in the evening on Facebook, Twitter and Strava.
I will record the downhills separately as I am only doing a leisurely descent as my knees will not take a running descent or rushed descent and I would put the whole challenge at risk.
I'm thinking of doing as many different routes as I can on the ascents, so not necessarily the easiest or fastest as some have long approach routes and some are steeper and trickier.
I will likely take the Llanberis path down as a recovery walk, and it has a food and drink stop halfway down. This will enable me to finish at Llanberis each day and get some tea, before being picked up by my Dad.
It's going to be a tough one as the week progresses and my legs and knees take the toll, but I'm confident I will do it.
Thank you all for your continued support.
