We help deaf children to learn to listen and talk.

Story

Our lovely Lydia recently learnt how to ankle skip and we have a lovely book about Captain Tom which has inspired her use this to do raise some money. She asked to give money to children who cant hear very well. I couldn't be more proud that she came up with this idea herself.

Many of you will know Lydia has suffered with moderate hearing loss and wore hearing aids from 18 months until this September age 5. Although we still have bad patches where she struggles, things are so good now compared to a few years ago. We were so fortunate to know early on that she would probably grow out of this in time, however despite her hearing loss not being severe it still had a massive impact on her, on her confidence, her ability to be able to join in, her learning etc. She has always been a sociable and determined (sometimes too determined!!) soul and has overcome a lot of little hurdles however she and we are so aware that when a child has more permanent and more severe hearing loss what an impact this has on a child and their family.

The Elizabeth Foundation (TEF) helps babies and pre school children across Hampshire with hearing loss learn to listen and speak. They run a specialist nursery setting and are there to support and inform families from the moment their child is diagnosed with any degree of hearing loss. This year over 80 babies, toddlers and pre-school children will attend specialist education programmes and get individual speech and language therapy.

We wanted to find a local charity that fitted her brief  I explained what this charity did Lydia was so keen to help them. She said she would give her money from the tooth fairy to help too. She would be so grateful for anything you can give, the amount does not matter, she will just be so happy that she is doing something to help!

To quote her favourite song from Matilda the Musical - 'even if you're little you can do a lot, you mustn't let a little thing like little stop you. '

She will do 300 skips a day until we reach target (or more, she is aiming high!)

Thank you, love Lydia and family xx
