Story
Postpartum Psychosis (PP) is a truly terrifying illness, not just for the women who go through it but for their partners, families and friends too. I have lived that experience - I'm passionate about raising awareness and over the years have been involved with the work of this fantastic charity, which supports and shows there is light at the end of the tunnel, to so many others who go through PP.
Of the women who experience postpartum psychosis ~50% do so “out of the blue”, with no previous history of mental health problems. The outlook is good though and with the right treatment and support, most mums recover and return to their normal selves, embracing motherhood and enjoying family life
We were really lucky to have a Mother & Baby Unit (MBU) reasonably close by, but for others this is not the case and can add to an already difficult and stressful time.
I'm cycling 850 miles on my smart trainer, 'virtually' riding between MBUs from Scotland to Devon, raising funds for APP and highlighting the varying distances between them across the UK, as well as the difficulties partners and families face supporting someone going through PP.
I'd really appreciate your support and any donation will be a massive help to continuing the great work and support Action on Postpartum Psychosis provide.
A massive thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Simon
