Simran died at the age of 22 years old, due to an autonomic neurological dysfunction. This meant that all her involuntary muscles did not work leading to a low body temperature, low heart rate and low blood pressure. Three years ago, she had Type 2 Respiratory Failure. A year later, she developed cataracts overnight and within four weeks she lost all sight in both eyes. 

Even with the start she had, Simran was always a happy girl, smiling and laughing and constantly loved interactions with people. As soon as she would hear the voices of people that she knew, she would start smiling! When she was in the classroom, if someone walked in and didn't acknowledge her, she would keep saying the two words she knew ('yeah' or 'yuk') louder and louder until they spoke to her - she really loved communicating with everyone. Simran also had a great sense of humour, always laughing if someone ever tripped/fell over!

She attended Grangewood School, part of the Eden Academy, which is a school that looked after children with profound and multiple learning difficulties. Simran loved this school; the activities and staff really engaged her with her new learning environment. She remembered the songs that were sung there, even after 11 years. We still sung the songs with her - she laughed and smiled even in her last moments we spent together. 

We would like to raise some money for children at the school who have severe learning difficulties like Simran to enjoy their first step into full-time education and to make it a fun environment for learning through play!
