Story
Hello everyone, thanks for visiting my Just Giving webpage.
30/3/11 - UPDATE - Interesting month! I started off with a slightly pulled hamstring which set me back 2 weeks. But once resolved, I got back into training completing the Reading Half Marathon in 2.31 (9 mins better than Windsor) followed up by a further 2 weeks of solid running culminating in 45 miles last week including a 20 miler. I am now reducing the miles in readiness for the big day. Delighted and amazed to see that I have now hit my initial target but still hoping to give Maggies a really big cheque.
24/2/11 - UPDATE - Training has been going very well and I am now up to 17 miles in 3 hrs 40 and running between 25 and 30 miles a week. I have had a little set back this week as I have managed to pull a muscle in my hamstring so I will give myself a few days off to recover but hope to be out again by Tuesday.
30/1/11 - UPDATE - A big thanks to all who have sponsored me, I have been truly overwhelmed by peoples generosity and supportive comments. I am running approximately 26 miles a week with my longest so far being 13.5 miles. Its really tough but I’m progressing well, although I am struggling to visualise 26 miles in one go!
As Michael Caine famously once said "You’re a big man, but you’re out of shape!" but as you are probably aware by now, I have decided to put significant frame into doing something that 12 months ago was simply inconceivable.
I am running the London Marathon in April 2011, an event that I watched as a boy thinking that when I was old enough, I would really like to take part. However, as age and mass caught up with me, I chose to watch said race from the comfort of the local pub which was far safer and more pleasurable.
However, after some helpful words of encouragement, I started running and have been so for just over a year now and have successfully completed a 6k Santa Race (yes I looked ridiculous), followed by a couple of 10Ks around London and Oxford with the challenging Windsor Half Marathon completed in September 2010. It amazed me what could be achieved within such a short period and inspired me to attempt a full marathon.
Sadly, my family and I have suffered, like so many others, because of the direct and indirect effects of cancer. We have lost family and friends but also seen remarkable and brave recoveries. So when the opportunity to run for Maggies Cancer Caring Centres arose, I jumped at it.
The Maggie Keswick Jencks Cancer Caring Centres Trust was founded in 1995 to provide support for people affected by cancer, their families, carers and friends to empower people to live with, through and beyond cancer.
With my stupidity and your support, I am hoping that I can raise enough money to really help the people at Maggie’s build a life beyond cancer for those who need it.
So please dig deep and donate now.
