March each year is designated Prostate Cancer Awareness Month by the leading UK charity for the condition, the Prostate Cancer Charity. This year the charity is encouraging supporters to recognise and remember the 10,000 men who die of the disease each year by completing a 10,000 event, such as a parachute jump from 10,000 feet or a 10,000 metre run. I am going a bit further and will run 10,000 metres (just over 6 miles) every day of the month, and in doing so will cover just over 190 miles, about the same as twelve laps of the Oxford Ring Road.

Through my voluntary work I know personally of three men who have died of prostate cancer in the last twelve months.

My final run of the month will finish at half-time during Oxford United's home game against Morecombe on 31st March, where the Oxfordshire Prostate Cancer Support Group is holding an awareness event.
