Story
“Dementia sort of steals the soul”.
That is how a friend of mine, whose mum suffers from dementia, described it to me.
By sponsoring me, we have the chance to do something about it.
Dementia is the umbrella term for a number of diseases that affect the brain, of which Alzheimer’s is the most common.
One in three people over 65 in the UK will develop dementia; and every year another 100,000 people develop the condition, robbing them of their memories and their lives. At the moment, there is no cure.
So caring for people with dementia and researching its cause and treatment are very worthwhile causes, the Alzheimer’s Society does a great job in these areas, and I’d like to support it.
I love cycling, so undertaking this challenge of a lifetime, in cycling from Land’s End to John O'Groats, and raising money for such a wonderful cause at the same time, was too good an opportunity to miss. In addition, it is an honour to have been selected to co-lead the Lloyds Bank team on this iconic event: though the prospect of riding 969 miles in nine days, and raising £95,000 for Alzheimer’s (our team target) is both daunting and exciting in equal measure.
Please help us reach our target; and in so doing, help the Alzheimer’s Society to care for hundreds of dementia sufferers and to search for treatments and a cure. Thank you so much.
