Story
The team led by Simon Pollock, with Craig Wills, Toby Morris and Michael Bertin competed in the Three Peaks Challenge by climbing Ben Nevis (1,344mts), Scafell Pike (935mts) and Snowdon (1,085mts) on Saturday 12 May 2012 and succeeded in completing the event in just over 23 hours in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Thank you to all who have supported them financially, but should anyone who still wishes to do so, then please give even a very small amount, as it makes such a huge difference.
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the upper and lower motor neurones. Degeneration of the motor neurones leads to weakness and wasting of muscles, causing increasing loss of mobility in the limbs, and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing.
MND kills 5 people every day in the UK and leaves people unable to walk, talk or feed themselves. It is fatal with no known cure and kills half of those diagnosed within 14 months. The MND Association ensures that people affected by MND can secure the care and support they need. It funds and promotes research into causes, treatments and a cure for MND and relies mainly on voluntary donations.
My son in law, Toby's father recently passed away having suffered with this horrific disease, so I am hoping to raise as much as I can for this worthy cause, by putting myself through my toughest challenge yet.
I will be embarking on the 3 Peaks Challenge, climbing the three Highest Peaks in the home nations: Scotland, England and Wales. Starting with Ben Nevis before heading south for, Scafell Pike and then finishing at Snowdon.
The challenge is all the more tough as we will complete the whole lot in just 24 hrs. A total of 480 miles of driving, a large part during the night, and climbing a total of almost 3000 vertical metres, will make this a special kind of challenge.
