Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 28th January 2023, my dad passed away having suffered over the last two years from a slow onset of dementia. During the final two weeks of his life, the illness accelerated dramatically.
In that time, and in particular the last two weeks of his life, I saw my dad as I knew him disappear. This was so upsetting to witness and I knew that it would have been so hard for my mum to live with, and care for him.
My mum has been amazing but I can’t lie, seeing my dad like that has affected me deeply.
I have therefore decided to do something that I can do (run) and put it to good use by trying to take on a challenge to raise money for Dementia UK, to help others who will be struggling to live with their loved ones and dementia.
The challenge that I am taking on is, in a way, more of a mental than physical one for me. I am running 40 miles in 10 hours, with the requirement being that I complete every 4 mile lap within the hour.
So I have to be disciplined and not go off too quickly in the early laps, something that, anyone who knows me will know that, I am not very good at!
But I am determined to do it, for my dad, my mum, and everyone else who has had to live with dementia.
Thank you ❤️
