Simon's Birmingham half marathon!

Bupa Great Birmingham Run 2013 · 20 October 2013 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am doing this run in memory of an amazing man and friend, Richard Taylor, who was sadly taken away from us way too soon. In honour and memory of this great man, please dig deep and donate whatever you can afford - it is for a great cause.
A little bit about my friendship with Dickie. I met him more than 20 years ago when I started working with him. I was 18 at the time. We soon became good buddies and shared so many eventful times together, with other friends. Our circle of friends got bigger and bigger, going to festivals, holidays, parties together, building hysterical and fond memories that I will never forget. I look back at my 20's, and even my 30's, and can't remember an occasion or memorable event when he wasn't.there.
In February this year we had an awful message from Rich's partner. He'd had a heart attack and was very poorly. He had chest pains at work, had gone home and, as usual he went to bed but had not woke up. We waited for good news but a day later we had the call we had prayed so desperately not to have. Scans on his brain revealed that he had suffered too much brain damage due to a lack of oxygen going to his brain after the heart attack.
The next evening I went to say goodbye to him and couldn't get my head around what was happening. He just looked as though he was going to wake up at any moment.
The next day at work I waited to get the call that he'd passed away but it didn't come. After turning off life support his friends, family and I all visited him in hospital as often as we could, in the hope that a miracle might happen. Sadly, however, he passed away on 26th February; 26 days after being found by his partner. He was only 49 years old.
The money raised through this run will be donated to the British Heart Foundation, at the request of Scott and Richard's family. The BHF support hundreds of scientists who are striving to understand the fundamental causes of heart and circulatory disease, looking for new clues in the quest for a brighter future for heart patients.
