Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to The Shooting Star Children's Hospice and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - We raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

What are we doing?
Tim, Kathryn, Richard and Mateja will taking part in the Gartmore Brecon Challenge on 5 June 2010 to raise money for The Shooting Star Children's Hospice.  We will be covering 50km of the spectacular Brecon Beacons National Park by trekking 17km up the highest peak in South Wales, mountain biking 32km through woodland trails and paddling (in two man canoes) across the beautiful Pontsticill Reservoir - all (hopefully!) in around 9-12 hours.

About The Shooting Star Children's Hospice

The Shooting Star Children's Hospice is a fantastic charity which offers a range of care services for children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families. These can take place in the family home, in the community and at Shooting Star House, the purpose-built facility based in Hampton, Middlesex.

The care services include Short Breaks (respite care), Day Care, Outreach Care, Family Support and Therapies and specialist End of Life Care
. The care services are based around the needs of the whole family, so as well as caring for the children and young people; there are activities for siblings and support groups for parents and grandparents.  The services make a real difference to families who find themselves in unimaginable circumstances - sharing the good days, being there every step of the way through the more difficult times. They strive to ensure that quality of life is enhanced for the whole family throughout the course of a child's illness.

Their care services are provided to families free of charge, 365 days a year. It costs £3 million every year (£8,000 a day) to maintain these care services, and with no long-term statutory funding, the majority of this comes from voluntary donations.

So please dig deep and donate now - thank you!
