Story
I will be raising money for Skomer's Covid-19 appeal. Skomer is an island off the coast of Pembrokeshire which is home to over 35,000 puffins and 350,000 pairs of manx shearwaters. As well as sea birds, three species of owl also breed on Skomer, as well as hundreds of grey seals.
Skomer and neighbouring island Skokholm form the largest breeding colony of puffins in Southern Britain.Having visited the island several times in the past, I have experienced the true magic of the place and wouldn't want to see any of the wildlife compromised because of lack of funding.
Due to the Covid-19 lockdown, Skomer Island had to close to day and night visitors. The Wildlife Trust desperately needs funds to keep staff on the island during breeding season in order to protect the seabirds and ensure no predators come across to the islands which could decimate the seabird populations. The staff also undertake critical monitoring of the wildlife on the Island which is crucial to long term conservation efforts.
The staff on Skomer Island have set up a live youtube video so that you can watch the puffins on Skomer! The link is: https://youtu.be/wNesAyY5eFU
