Story
Undergoing oncology treatment can be very challenging physically, emotionally, and financially, particularly when treatments can last for weeks and months. Many immediate expenses arise for patients receiving treatment, such as transportation to and from appointments, child care, parking, and hotel stays and meals when traveling from a distance. Additionally, patients are often unable to work during their treatment. The combination of these factors creates significant financial hardship.
Leading up to the 10th anniversary of my Dad's passing on April 12, 2024, I wanted to honor him in a special way that would represent how he lived his life. He and my Mom worked tirelessly to be able to give generously. That included to those who surrounded My Dad's own oncology journey — paying for the parking of other patients, sharing his love of food or surprising a patient or nurse with Penguin tickets. To continue what they started, we are making a donation of $20,000 to establish a patient assistance fund at the AHN Cancer Institute that will support patients undergoing oncology treatment throughout the region.
Each and every gift will make an immediate positive impact on a patient's life and help to ease the burden during an extremely stressful time in their life. The Mark S. Silberman Oncology Patient Assistance Fund will carry on my Dad's legacy of showing kindness to others during their most difficult times. Do not feel obligated, but if you are able, and this cause speaks to you, I welcome those that would like to join me to expand the impact of this fund.
Thank you for your gracious consideration.
With gratitude,
Shelby
