Story
Surrey Search & Rescue (SurSAR) is a voluntary specialist search team on-call 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. The team assists the emergency services in finding missing vulnerable adults and children. They operate in all environments and around water when the emergency services need their specialist skills.
During the last few months discussions have been ongoing with SurSAR on how we as a community could assist them in a purchasing a new fully equipped SurSAR Shepperton Rescue Boat which would be permanently moored on this stretch of the river near to Shepperton Lock.
This would give the necessary team the ability to respond as quickly as possible to water emergencies when needed.
In the light of recent events we are inviting you as part of the river community to help us, along with SurSAR to raise funds for a boat that would be used for this stretch of the River Thames, near to and between Shepperton and Chertsey Locks. SurSAR receive no funding from the government, the emergency services or the council. They are a charity that relies wholly on donations to purchase and maintain their vital lifesaving equipment.
A small fund raising group has now been put together to engage with and involve the local community in our efforts to raise the funding required to purchase the boat, supporting equipment, set up the mooring facility and train some local community volunteers to support SurSAR in emergencies.
If you have any questions, please contact our fund raising co-ordinators.
Thank you for your support of a safer river and riverside for all.
