Weybridge Old Georgian’s Lourdes Experience (WOGLE)   is a charity group set up by Old Georgians some 20 years ago that organises accompanied holidays to Lourdes, France for the sick, terminally ill and disabled (VIP’s). 

Each year WOGLE takes a small Group of VIP’s to Lourdes for ten days, with an experienced leader, doctors, nurses, a chaplain and male and female helpers, all of whom give up their time and energy as volunteers.

Travel is by Jumbulance, a specially adapted coach equipped with hospital beds, kitchenette and toilet, providing excellent facilities for the group. In Lourdes the group stays in a centrally located hotel which is wheelchair friendly and has all the facilities expected to meet the needs of the group.

These trips are specially organised to provide all the support and care needed to enable unable travellers to be fully involved in a fun and meaningful week. We have daily group masses in different locations from St Joseph’s Chapel within the Domain, the ancient church at St Savin in the Pyrenees, to outside in meadows overlooking the Domain. Daily activities are organised in and around Lourdes as well as excursions to the Pyrenees and surrounding areas. These include visiting spectacular churches and basilicas, trips up the mountains to the beautiful waterfalls at Point Despan and to the sea side at St Jean de Luz.

Each year the Old Georgian’s and friends involved with WOGLE raise the funds needed to supplement the fares of those sick and disabled who are unable to pay the full fare. We also offer confidential support to helpers who would find it difficult to pay the full fare. In previous years our fund raising efforts have included the West Highland Walk, 95 miles from Glasgow to the foot of Ben Nevis, a major part of the trek from Santiago to Compostela, a horse racing evening and our annual Black Tie Ball at the Hilton Hotel  Cobham.

This year we are undertaking an amazing five day, 67 mile, sponsored walk around the coastal path of the Isle of Wight.
