Story
I am running a half marathon to raise funds for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research in recognition of Charlie’s ongoing battle with Leukaemia.
Charlie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in February 2011 when he was 8 years of age. His fight began immediately with 9 months of intensive chemotherapy which made him sick, tired, bad tempered and very emotional. It affected his mobility and he lost his hair twice.
Charlie is now 2 years and 7 months into his treatment following a maintenance plan which is due to continue until April 2014. This involves daily, weekly and monthly chemotherapy, regular courses of steroids and antibiotics and trips to theatre for chemotherapy to be injected directly into his spinal fluid. Charlie can be very unwell at times, though he never complains and always insists he’s “fine!”
Right here, right now, Charlie is “fine”. He has had an amazing summer. He has returned to his football club and is looking forward to going back to school and catching up with his friends.
Charlie is fighting a battle and has faced pain and suffering that no child should ever know. Charlie is an inspiration and its thanks to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research that Charlie has a future to look forward to. Twenty years ago, 80% of children died from this devastating disease. Now, more than 90% survive and Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research will not stop researching until they CAN BEAT blood cancer. Please help them to achieve their goal and give what you can afford to this worthy cause.
