Great North Run 2021 · 12 September 2021 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Well, this was the year I was going to run my first half marathon before I turned half a century old - The Great North Run 2020 - whilst raising lots of money from various fundraising ideas.  However, a pandemic arrived which shelved all my plans for the foreseeable future. So I had a rethink...all being well I'll be running the GNR in 2021 but in the meantime I'm still determined to run my first half marathon before my big birthday (September 14 2020) and start fundraising!  So my new plan is to take part in the GNR Solo Challenge - to run a minimum of 40 runs from 28/06/2020 (birthday of GNR) - 13/09/2020 (the day the 40th GNR was scheduled). Then, my last run for the GNR Solo challenge will be on the 13 September - running the Virtual Great North Run...my first ever half marathon distance!

I appreciate that this is a financially difficult time and times are still unsettling for everyone but, however small the amount you are able to donate, it would be greatly appreciated.  Charities are having a difficult time and now need funding more than ever.  Thank you in advance for your support.

Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

Many thanks for reading my story and stay safe. X
