Story
There are an estimated 20,000 children who live in brothels in Bangladesh and countless thousands around the world.
Born into an environment where they are groomed at a very early age and engulfed into a world of sexual abuse, torture, and violence. They are marginalised from the community and excluded from society due to the stigma of being the child of a sex worker.
Children as young as 5-6 help their mothers by cleaning the rooms after a client visit. They handle dirty, used paraphernalia as well as being exposed to drugs such as Yabba.
Young girls are groomed and are forced into prostitution from a very young age where they are abused and sold for a few pounds to countless men. The evil desire of sexually abusing young virgin girls command a high price and due to poverty, violence and lack of opportunity, sex workers see no option but to force their own children into prostitution and sell them to the highest bidder.
Boys are also sexually abused until they can ‘fight back’ but by that time they have immersed themselves into the brothel life and become pimps themselves or involved in criminality.
Some of these children are lured away from their parents, from the villages, with the hope of working as a domestic maid. Others are knowingly sold to pay for family debts. Those that are running away from abuse and end up on the streets are eventually trafficked into sexual exploitation and end up in the brothels.
The children develop severe mental illnesses such as post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and are very often vulnerable to causing self-harm. They lack confidence and are either suspicious or petrified of any male interaction.
Mothers often spend the majority of their earnings to keep their children in hostels away from the brothels. Their safety remains uncertain however, with several cases of local gang men raping young unattended children.
Muslim Charity, has been working with vulnerable children in Bangladesh for a number of years and have successfully rescued over 1,000 children from the evils of the street. We have rescued children who have been in bonded sexual slavery and reunited lost children with their families. Now with your help, we have embarked on this journey to save many more children from the brothels.
The Project
Our team is on the ground now and working with sex workers to rescue as many children from the brothels as possible.
We have a safe home where they will be protected from the dangers of brothel life. They will be given nutritious food, clothing, and education to enable them to achieve their dreams and fulfil their potential, the minimum we would want for our children. We have also been able to put in place, professional psychological support whereby children will be treated according to their needs.
We believe that the mothers should still have a relationship with their children and have therefore arranged visits twice a month as well as any arranged visits they may wish to make. It is important that we maintain the bond of a mother and her child and not add to the trauma suffered by their children.
The charity will take legal guardianship of all the children rescued so they are never taken back to that dark world, as well as taking the possibility from their mothers to make decisions that would bring them into harm’s way.
With your help, we want to raise the voices of all the children who are silently suffering sexual, mental and physical abuse in Bangladesh and around the world.
Together we have the ability to change their lives for the better and give them the opportunity to fulfill their dreams. Help us bring security to their lives and love to their hearts.
