Story
This summer, on the 11th of July, a group of 20 military sponsored
students, myself included,
will be traveling to Kenya for 3 weeks on a charity expedition. The first 2 weeks will be spent
working on a volunteering project in Nakuru. The aim of the project is to
construct a sheltered sport's area for a local disabled volleyball team, along
with building an ablutions block and classroom. The second phase of the trip is
for the group to spend a week enjoying the beautiful wildlife Kenya has to
offer, vising the charities we are fundraising for as well as challenging
ourselves by climbing Mt. Kenya. Before we leave, we’re all aiming to fundraise
a total of £500 each. The money raised will be going directly to The Ol Pejeta Conservancy (which forms part of
the Tusk Trust).
The Ol Pejeta Conservancy is an important "not-for-profit" wildlife conservancy in Kenya. It is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees and is home to four of the world's last seven northern white rhinos. The Ol Pejeta Conservancy works to conserve wildlife, provide a sanctuary for great apes and to generate income through wildlife tourism and complementary enterprises for re-investment in conservation and community development. Working closely with the Government of Kenya, our conservation activities are carried out to the highest international standards.
