Story
Background
On 9/11/21 the Firefighters Charity Merseyside will be hosting an event in conjunction with Radio City Tower.
As you may know, this year will mark the 20th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre Buildings.
The September 11 attacks, often referred to as 9/11, were a series of terrorist attacks against the Untied States on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001. It remains the deadliest terror attack in human history (2,977 fatalities and over 25,000 injuries) and the single deadliest incident for firefighters (343 fatalities) in the history of the United States. Two planes struck the twin towers of of the world trade center in New York. The first hit the North Tower at 08:46 and the second crashed into the South Tower at 09:03.
This date will remain a poignant memory for many around the world.
The Challenge
Inspired by the many events that take place on this date worldwide, to commemorate the occasion and remember those who lost their lives, firefighters from Merseyside will be climbing the radio city tower 343 times in remembrance of the 343 firefighters who tragically lost their lives trying to save others.
Firefighters from Merseyside will be wearing fire kit and BA whilst climbing the internal stair case of the radio city tower. The weight of a BA set is around 15Kg and fire kit is designed to keep heat out which in turn will create a tough environment for participants.
The radio city tower consists of 93 flights of stairs / 46.5 floors.
The Twin Towers of the World Trade Center were 110 floors. Climbing the radio city tower 2 and a quarter times would roughly be the height of the twin towers back in 2001.
Every single climb represents a fallen firefighter and adds towards achieving our goal.
"All gave some, some gave all".
