Story

*Update*

Finally......I did it! As you can see from the photo, my face has turned so pale white after I did something that I shouldn't have--I looked down! The first feeling was really scary, especially when I was asked to lean backwards holding the rope. Adding to the fear I've already had, the abseiling staff suddenly said: 'Oh wait, I just saw that the rope got stuck there. Let me loosen it up a bit.' And the next moment, my eyes were all focusing on his hand fixing the rope, in case.......you know what I mean. While at the same time, there was another girl asked me to look at her camera:'Give me a smile here, say Cheese~!'

So, there you go, photo of my extremely pale white face not looking at the camera.

Then I started my journey walking down. The abseil staff had given us a briefing just before the abseil, and we had a feel at a stair just before we went out to the top of the building. At that time, my mind was actually blank--I don't remember when I entered the lift, which floor he pressed on in the lift, and where we were during the briefing, until we walked through the two doors at the end of the stairs after the briefing. But I do remember he said: '15th floor'. Or maybe that is my imagination?

However I didn't count how many windows I passed by just to verify what he said. I am just, practically hanging there grabbing tight on the rope, but soon after that, I felt safe pretty quick after feeling that the safety rope is actually working fine. And then I started wondering who were there on the the other side of these windows and what were they doing......hmm, I guess I should just stop here about the windows.

When I was almost done with half of the 'walk', I can barely keep my feet on the wall for some reasons (bad abseiling technique?), so it just looked like I was rubbing the building wall with the bottom of my shoes. I guess it looked silly from far below because it's like I am some tiny creature trying to give the building a good scratch with my feet. I did feel like I was cheating as I stopped a while near a window and chill out, hanging on the safety rope before I continue for the rest. And then I sort of heard someone else shouting at the bottom:' You can do it! Come on, just another two (or three?) floors!' I guess they just want to get me out of there and thus I continued until I reached the ground.

And here I am, ALIVE! It is a really great experience, I'll definitely try it again if I have the chance. Last but not least, I am very thankful to those who have kindly donated some money and I sincerely hope that these donations would be of good use to those who needed it. And, I hope I've at least entertained you with my pale white face in the photo--not many people would have seen me looking like this!

p.s.: Someone that I dragged into this thing said that he would like to do it in Australian style/ rap jumping next time......but hopefully it won't turn out like this.....hmm, worth considering aye?

Yours sincerely,

Casy

Thank you very much to those who have donated, your donation means a lot to me! And to those who don't know me but now reading this page, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am a third year student from School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Queen's University Belfast and I am going to do my first abseiling for charity (and to get some fresh air for thesis writing). All money raised will be donated to help the disabled people in the local community. I would really appreciate if you can donate some--any amount you like, every little helps!

p.s.: Someone's been joking with me:' Why not you do abseiling down from the top of Ashby building (my current school building)?'

Hmm...I wish---I don't mind hanging outside my supervisors' windows wearing some Halloween fancy dress & make-ups, especially at the time when he's been working late......guess you should know who is that 'someone' by now.
