Story
We all like a drink. Some of my favourite moments have come from nights out and parties, drinking with friends! For large parts of 2020 however, meeting friends and being in pubs & clubs hasn’t been viable due to COVID-19, and as a result you’d expect drinking to perhaps curb.
Despite this, I have found that drinking is still largely how I have socialised this year, whether it be on Zoom calls, or spending weekends in-front of the TV watching the football with housemates. It is incredibly easy to say yes to a drink, and equally hard to turn them down on occasions.
It is for reasons such as these, combined with treatment for alcoholism being largely underfunded and lacking awareness that I have decided to undertake Dry January.
Mount Carmel Hostel for Recovering Alcoholics do outstanding work regarding rehabilitation and recovery, and as a result, I have chosen to fundraise for them this month. Alongside this challenge I plan to run 5km minimum every day throughout January!
This is in no way a post criticising drinking, I am already looking forward to a beer come February, but a personal decision to do something for a great cause. Donate a beer or two to my JustGiving page if you fancy, and enjoy your January! 🍻
