Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have been touched by cancer personally and deeply, sadly as have far too many of us. My friends, my family and I have all experienced the sorrow and pain of witnessing our loved ones suffer at the mercy of this cruel disease.
My cousin was just 16 years old when she died, leaving behind heartbroken parents who were never the same without her. My father never got to see retirement when he was taken from us a day before his 65th birthday. In his final months, cancer took away his ability to speak. He couldn't voice us his last wishes, share his words of wisdom, or even say hello or goodbye. My father-in-law, aged 59. And most recently, two very special friends. Not to mention all of the sufferers who are currently undergoing aggressive treatment and fighting to win their battles.
A very dear friend and colleague of mine, Giles Margerison, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 26 months ago and has been bravely fighting for precious time with his wife and teenage daughters. I love and admire Giles for the strength he shows every day. He has helped me put my own life into perspective and I will be forever thankful for that. His journey of determination for something we all take for granted humbled and inspired me to face my own personal challenge.
On 23rd April 2017, I will be running in The London Marathon.
Likes – Red wine, chocolate and TV . Dislikes – Running.... but move over Mo Farah !
This is the first time I have run more than a mile and the training thus far has been gruelling. Never mind the strict diet. But with so many inspirational people past and present in my thoughts, I’m determined to succeed in their honour.
May I be so bold as to suggest £1 per mile sponsorship? I will forgive you for smaller donations, but I may frown upon it ;)
Cancer does not discriminate and can change lives overnight, but we can all help find a cure and win the battle together.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. And for everyone’s overwhelming generosity.
I'll be running in loving memory of my father, Harriet, Rudi, Jacquie, Erjan and all who have lost their lives to cancer... In hope, strength & love for Amanda, Giles & all of the fighters who refuse to let cancer win x
