Bupa Great North Run 2014 · 7 September 2014 ·

We provide emergency medical care worldwide to people affected by conflict & disasters.

Story

The Great North Run, the Half Marathon with the most participants in the world, on Sunday 7 September was my sixth Half Marathon (13.1 miles). I’ve also completed the London and Edinburgh Marathons, raising money for good causes along the way, since taking up running at an already advanced age just over four years ago.

My chosen charity this time is Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders), the independent international medical crisis organisation which provides emergency treatment for victims in some of the world’s worst trouble spots.

Work, family, a couple of medical challenges (and lots of socialising) meant I only began serious training for the GNR a month beforehand so this was a particularly tough challenge. However, I finished the course from Newcastle to South Shields in 2 hours 37 minutes 4 seconds.

I'm most grateful to friends and family who have sponsored me so far, especially those on low incomes who could least afford even a small sum.

This page will remain open for donations until 7 December 2014. Supporting Medicins Sans Frontieres is simple, fast and totally secure.  Your money is sent directly to the charity.

Best wishes,

Scott
