If truth be told I'm an emotional person, so writing this down is still something I don't find very easy.
My sister Kaleigh and I were robbed of our Mum when we were far too young.
Having been diagnosed initially with Breast Cancer in 2001, Mum fought bravely for 3 years, sadly passing away in August 2004.
During this time Macmillan were an incredible support when we needed them the most. Their care, support and love towards the end is something I'll never ever forget.
They were there when things got really, really tough. And without them, Kaleigh, my Dad and I would not have been able to cope. Certainly not mentally.
So for this reason I wanted to challenge myself and run this marathon in Macmillan kit. No matter how much it hurts (and the 'training' I've done suggests this is not going to be very enjoyable) I will be crossing that finish line regardless.
Mum suffered enormously as she battled this illness. Towards the very end I sat with her and promised I would run this race, raise loads and loads of money and make her proud.
So for me, (having applied and not been accepted far too many times) this is a decade overdue and I have to fulfil that promise.
Please spare whatever you can to support Macmillan and make my Mum proud.
Cheers, Scott.
