Story

Hello my friends,

What to say........OK I have been in training over the last few months in order to get myself semi fit to partake in a Triathalon. The main reason I have been doing this (and abstaining from Alcohol for the last 7 months - yes it's true and has not been easy!!) is because I wish to give back to my local community and help other families experience the peace that a pilgrimage to Lourdes can give.

My Son is not a well boy but is blessed - that is for sure - (God this is harder to write than I thought!!!). We have all been fortunate enough to go to Lourdes on Pilgrimage, with the partial financial help of St Helens Church, a couple of times now. One particular time to note was when we took Ben there and he took his first Holy Communion - that was very special.

At first, to be honest I was hoping I guess for a physical healing or a "miracle" for my Son and that we could become a "normal" family and I could kick a ball with him. We did the baths, walked the stations of the cross and attended mass every morning - we left and although we had no signs of a physical healing for Ben I had received a peace that for now or until God decides otherwise, this is gods will for me and my family and he will grant us the courage, grace, strength and mercy to carry each other on this our life's journey. It was also good to share similar experiences with other families who had their own stories to tell and that we were not alone out in the world and support and Love is available in abundance.

The blessed Virgin did tell Burnadette in one of the apparitions that her suffering would not ease in this world but there will be great joy in the next - I guess we all have a cross to carry.

Anyway before I get to emotional I would like other families in my community, who may not be able to afford to go on a Pilgrimage to Lourdes, the opportunity to experience the peace and grace that Lourdes offers those who seek it. This is why I would like to try and raise as much funds as I can and why I am taking on this challenge.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this - it obviously means a lot to Jane and I so anything you can give would be so gratefully appreciated.

God Bless you all - I hope I finish (who knows I may even have a cheeky pint at the end!!!!).

Cheers,

Scott
