Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am delighted to have gained a place to run the London Marathon 2022  for the Teenage Cancer Trust!
I will be running in memory of a young lady called Emily whom I was fortunate enough to know. I have been given the blessing of Emily’s family to share her story:
Emily was a very popular, friendly and bubbly girl who always had a smile on her face. I knew Emily from a young age; she was an impressive footballer for our local village youth team for which I was heavily involved.
After weeks of investigations for pain in her back, Emily was diagnosed with stage 4 Metastatic Rhabdomyosarcoma in 2013. Emily herself was strong and determined to beat it. Whilst she was undergoing hospital treatment I was training to be a physiotherapist. My final placement coincided with Emily’s stay in the same hospital that I was working in. I was able to meet up with Emily and her Mum on a couple of occasions. Emily’s beaming smile across the gym whilst she was trying to keep her strength up on the exercise bike lives strong in my memory. Whilst I was on this particular placement, as chairman of our local village youth football club, I was involved in the organising of a charity football match for the Teenage Cancer Trust. A successful evening which was well supported by the club and the local community. It was an honour to go and hand over a cheque alongside Emily for all the monies raised, to the Teenage Cancer Trust department at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.
Emily battled hard through gruelling treatments including radiotherapy and chemotherapy, leading to initially improved test results and scans.
Sadly, at the age of just 17, Emily’s cancer returned and devastatingly she was told that it was now incurable. Despite a couple of years of further treatment to control the illness, Emily continued to pursue her dreams including completing her A-Levels and 6 weeks of travelling Australia. Upon her return from Down Under, a further tumour was found in her thigh. Despite more treatment attempts and Emily continuing to battle on bravely, it was not being effective and in July 2018 her treatment was stopped. In August 2018, Emily lost her fight with cancer and passed away peacefully with her family around her.
I am aware of how much help and support the Teenage Cancer Trust were to Emily whilst she was battling through her illness.
Emily’s family continue to work tirelessly with charity events to raise money for this amazing charity.
I am running to raise money for this charity so that they can continue to help and support teenagers and young adults through these devastating times.
It will be an honour to run for Emily, her friends and family, and for everyone else who has been affected by this horrible disease.
Please give as generously as you can.
