Story
We made it!!!
We arrived in Ulaan Bataar a few days ago and to the finish line in Ulan Ude yesterday! It has been an awesome trip with so many adventures.
To those of you who have donated, thank you SO much. It means such a lot to us and Maggies are very grateful indeed.
For those of you who still want to donate, there is still time and your donation is very much appreciated.
Sheila ( our Vauxhall Agila) has been brilliant with only one breakdown. She has come close to the end of her days though, and the above photos were taken yesterday. This will not have helped!
In July of this year (George, Sandy and Thomas) set off to take part in the Mongol Rally. This entailed driving a Vauxhall Agila (Postman Pat’s van) from London to Ulan Ude, some 10,000 miles away in Russia. This involves driving through 19 different countries, numerous time zones, deserts and some very dodgy roads, in a vehicle barely suitable for the smooth roads of the UK. The car had done 106, 000 miles and cost us all of 400 quid. This adventure was going to test our navigation skills, mechanical skills and above all our mental strength to put up with one and another for the 6 weeks!
Since purchasing the car and before the Rally started, the front wheel has only fallen off once, it's sure to be a challenge!
We took on this challenge in order to raise money for a fantastic charity.
Maggie’s Centre Edinburgh, this provides practical, emotional and social support to people suffering from cancer and their family and friends. It is a centre that is very close to our hearts and has greatly helped members of this team over the last year. The centre sits in the grounds of the West General Hospital and provides an environment where patients and their families can go to get expert advice or just simply to have a cup of tea and chat to people in similar situations. It also offers a wide range of courses that help the whole family deal with the practical and emotional strains.
