I am a member of the 7th St Leonards Girlguides and have been selected to be part of a service project in Kenya in the summer of 2020. I have been a member of the Guiding community since the age of five and I feel incredibly proud to be the only guide in East Sussex to have been selected for this expedition.
The three week trip will involve working at a local school in Nakuru. During our time there we will assist in the classroom, where lessons are taught in English, to help to support the childrens’ learning. We will also be coaching the children in sports and teaching them some new team games and introducing them to some new equipment.               In addition to this we will be renovating some classrooms to improve the learning environment for the children.

During the trip I will be working very closely with eleven other Girlguides from the London and South East Region, alongside 3 leaders. Not only will this trip benefit the children and wider local community, but I will also be gaining many valuable skills for the future and expect to grow as a person. Kenya has areas of extreme poverty and there are strong cultural expectations, I expect this to be quite challenging and will take me out of my comfort zone but feel will give me a greater awareness and appreciation for our Global Community.
