On August 7th 2010, Saskia will mount her horse amidst the ruins of the Great Khaan' s ancient capital Kharkhorin to face a gruelling 1000 km race across the empty wilderness of Mongolia. With only 10 days to cover the course, The Mongol Derby is not a test of the horse's speed, but of the rider's skill and endurance... Saskia is raising money for 2 Charities.

Over the past five years Mercy Corps has established a strong reputation across the vast Gobi region, and continues to work with business associations and local organizations to ensure a robust economy that preserves ancient traditions. The Mongol Derby is working closely with Mercy Corps in Mongolia to ensure that the money raised from the Derby goes to the herding communities who are going to be so integral to the success of the race.
