Story

Update 12th September 2016

Well, we DID it!! It took us 3 hours 59mins to row the 19 miles from Sark to Jersey.

We set off from Sark at 8.25am. The first 2 hours were a doddle with plenty of time to chat and watch the swell, the 3rd hour around the Paternosters was rather hairy so we steered away from trouble (see photo!), and the final 59mins was a bit quieter in the boat as everything started to hurt! The crowd at Bonne Nuit were incredible - thank you to all those who came along - we really appreciated it and felt very overwhelmed.

In total we raised £2,400 for the Donna Annand Melanoma Charity - so a huge, huge heartfelt thank you to you all.

Update 9th September 2016

Not quite sure where the last 2 months has gone.....we are going to complete the Sark to Jersey rowing challenge this Sunday 11th - not quite as fit after a summer of excess, but as determined as ever! We leave Jersey (very) early on Sunday morning and hope to get into Bonne Nuit harbour having completed the identical course between 11-12pm.

Once again, a big thank for all your support and sponsorship to date - we have raised over £2,000 for the Donna Annand Melanoma Charity.

Wish us a smooth crossing, strong legs and a sense of humour!

Andrea, Tina, Lisa, Sam and Ann

Update 3rd July 2016

As many of you probably know the 50th Sark to Jersey Rowing Race was postponed yesterday due to the weather. They were forecasting winds gusting to 24 knots and the waves were expected to reach 6ft high which meant it wouldn't be safe for crews to compete, or guard boats to keep watch. As you can imagine, after 9 months of learning and training we are gutted!

The race has been rescheduled to 16th July, which for many reasons we can't do. So our plan (unless of course it is rescheduled a third time!) is to complete the challenge independently on 10th September.

We are so grateful for all your sponsorship to date, and hope that you are happy to continue with your support for our fund raising efforts for the Donna Annand Melanoma Charity - a great and worthwhile charitable cause.

We will keep you posted!

Andrea, Sam, Lisa and Tina x

We only started learning to row a few months ago, and are competing in the 50th Sark to Jersey rowing race!

The course will take us from the start in Dixcart Bay across open water to the Paternosers reef where we turn and follow Jersey’s north coast towards Bonne Nuit Bay.  By the time we hit dry land we will have rowed about 19 nautical miles with cross tides and the infamous choppy outfalls off Sark, not to mention any other conditions the weather throws at us!

Skin cancer is becoming an increasing  issue in Jersey, and we thought that this outdoor challenge would be a great way to raise awareness and support the work of the Donna Annand Melanoma Charity. The Donna Annand Melanoma Charity was formed in June 2011 to highlight the dangers of malignant melanoma and raise awareness of the disease following Donna’s death in February 2011, age 29. Thank you in advance for any contribution you can make to their great work through this JustGiving page.
