I was inspired by my husband's Uncle, James Partridge and what he has achieved since a terrible accident changed his life dramatically when he was 18. Fear for him became a daily experience. He was severely burned in a car fire and lost his looks for ever.
Everywhere James went, he was scared... scared of other people's reactions, their staring, curiosity, anguish, recoil, embarrassment and dread of meeting him - and worst of all, their ridicule.
James was also scared of himself... afraid of what he saw in the mirror and sad that he had lost what he believed - then - to be central to his prospects, his looks.
Face your Fears Week aims to raise everyone' awareness of the fear of disfigurement. James still experiences 'scared' days & I figured it was my turn to too - THE SKYDIVE!!
Changing Faces the charity which James set up helps people whose face or bodies look unusual to face their fears - and through their campaign for face equality, they are determined to enable everyone overcome their fear of disfigurement - by making it familiar and removing the stigma attached to it.
My skydive is terrifying and asking for sponsorship is pretty daunting too - but I'm doing it for good reason. Please give as generously as you can to help Changing Faces do the transforming.
Thank you very much...
